CPD Hours – 3 hours
Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) happens when parents fail to notice, respond to, and validate a child’s emotions enough.
The effect is often impaired emotional awareness, social attachment, and interpersonal relating.
Dr Jonice Webb, Clinical Psychologist and author writes that CEN, “is often subtle, invisible and unmemorable” after all it is not possible to recall what did not happen.
CEN is commonly a significant albeit not-understood issue for clients whose childhood involved:
- fostering or adoption
- family violence
- a caregiver with a trauma history that generated chronic overwhelm
- a family member with chronic severe physical or mental illness or addiction
- parents who themselves grew up with CEN
This workshop will cover the impacts of CEN and things which make a difference for client survivors of CEN.
