About Janine
With over 18 years of experience in individual and couples therapy, I bring both clinical expertise and lived understanding to the complexities people face. I am the Co Founder and CEO of Destiny Haven, a not for profit residential program dedicated to restoring the lives of women impacted by trauma and life controlling challenges.
My work has been recognised nationally, including being named a finalist in the Telstra Business Women's Awards.
Areas of Expertise
I specialise in supervising therapists who wish to work more deeply with complex trauma as well as supporting individuals and couples who feel stuck due to unresolved experiences, particularly:
- Complex trauma and childhood abuse
- PTSD
- Addiction and life controlling behaviours
- Eating disorders and self harm
- Attachment trauma and relational difficulties
I have trained extensively under internationally recognised trauma expert Janina Fisher, completing over five years of advanced training. Her work, alongside leaders such as Bessel van der Kolk and Pat Ogden, has shaped modern understanding of trauma recovery.
This training informs a sensorimotor approach, which recognises that trauma is not only held in the mind, but in the body. Healing involves helping you feel safe within yourself again, not just understanding your past intellectually.
A Unique Perspective on Addiction
I bring over 22 years of professional experience in addiction recovery, alongside my own lived journey. Having overcome more than 15 years of addiction and now living free for over 32 years, I offer both clinical insight and genuine hope.
I understand addiction not as the core problem, but as a coping strategy. Often, it has been a resourceful way of managing unresolved pain, trauma, or internal chaos. Our work together focuses on addressing what sits beneath the behaviour, so lasting change becomes possible.
My Approach to Therapy
Therapy with me is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to you. No two people are the same, and your therapy will reflect that. I draw from a wide range of evidence based approaches, including:
- Trauma informed therapy
- Attachment based work
- Somatic and experiential approaches
- Cognitive and emotional processing
- Family systems and relational work
- Mindfulness based practices
My focus is to create a space where you feel safe enough to explore, understood enough to open, and supported enough to grow.
Commitment to Excellence
I am a clinical member of the Australian Counselling Association and the Christian Counselling Association of Australia.
I maintain a strong commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical practice, completing:
- Over 20 hours of clinical supervision each year
- More than 40 hours of continued professional training annually
I have also engaged in my own in depth therapeutic work, which I believe is essential in offering grounded, authentic care to others.
An Invitation
If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or shaped by experiences you cannot seem to move beyond, you are not alone. Healing is possible. Together, we can gently and safely work toward restoring clarity, strengthening your sense of self, and helping you move forward with greater freedom.
