Doug Sotheren first trained as a relationship counsellor in 1969 – 1973. He has further training in Gestalt, Family and Somatic Therapy. For eight years he operated a counselling centre in Western Sydney and then was involved in the creation of the LifeCare Counselling Service in Sydney. He has been training Counsellors and leading intensive workshops since 1975. His experience includes over 27,000 hours of counselling and thousands of hours of group training in the field of Relationship Counselling, Clinical Supervision and Somatic relational approaches to counselling practice. He currently practices as a counsellor/clinical supervisor, and human relations’ trainer on the NSW Central Coast. He has acted as consultant for various agencies and Government departments in the areas of Relationship Counselling, Palliative Care, Grief, Mental Health, Eating Disorders, Intensive Family Preservation and Clinical Supervision. He is a Clinical Life Member and registered supervisor of the Christian Counsellor’s Association. A past President, of Australian Association of Relationship Counsellors. For eleven years was a non executive director of Interrelate Family Centres. An ordained Baptist minister he has a B.A. in Sociology, a Masters with a focus on family therapy systems and the AICD Diploma in Company Directorship.
