This is a Face to face event held in WA – 3 hours of professional development (category A)

Join us for a hands-on equine experience with Lea McDonald in the lovely southwest (15 mins from Busselton and Capel).

Participants will be briefed in safety (approx. 20 mins) before engaging in two group sessions of approximately 1 hour each, with a feedback session and morning tea held in between.

In the group sessions, participants will be guided through specific experiments / experiences that have a psychotherapy underpinning (i.e. personal boundaries). Handouts will be provided at the event. Morning tea will be provided.

For those wishing to attend this event there is also an overnight stay option for Friday and / or Saturday night(s), for $10 per night at a beach house in Capel that sleeps up to 10 people which has kindly been made available for this CCAA event (bring your own bedding and towels). If you would like to stay overnight on Friday or Saturday, please email Naomi Karvinen (WA CCAA Branch Convenor) n.karvinen@outlook.com and put your request in for this option (first in basis). Naomi will get back to you promptly.

“Of all the animals that God created, horses have the unique ability to breathe into our soul and heal our heart. They give us honest feedback and clear emotional reflection without judgement. They live in the moment, model healthy attachments and are quick to forgive”
Horses, Helping Humans Heal, Lea McDonald

Horses can ‘connect’ with humans on a level we are not yet fully able to understand. This ability to connect with humans helps us experience our emotions in a supported, unique, and safe space and provides the opportunity for us to be our authentic selves, without judgement.

There is something about their sentient status that connects our body, soul and spirit, bringing peace and congruence (integration) – perhaps never felt before. Horses provide unique feedback to our unconscious thoughts, which helps us better understand ourselves.
Horses help us become centred. We change, we learn, we grow – when we are in their company.

Lea McDonald – Founder of Horse Connection

Counsellor | Psychotherapist | Equine-Assisted Therapy Practitioner

Lea is the founder of Horse Connection and a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor, offering both traditional and equine-assisted therapy. Her practice is grounded in personal experience, having navigated profound trauma following her husband’s life-altering injury, which left him an incomplete paraplegic. This lived experience deeply informs her compassionate, non-judgmental approach to supporting clients through a range of mental health challenges including grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Lea holds a Master of Counselling from the University of Divinity and a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Integrated Psychotherapy (AIFC). She is also trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and draws on a broad range of therapeutic modalities, including ACT, CBT, DBT, Schema Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and Quite Contemplation / Prayer (Mindfulness).

Her eclectic approach is tailored to each client and complemented by the serenity of her 50-acre property in Southwest Western Australia, where she offers sessions through Soul Sense (Clinical Therapy) and Horse Connection (Equine-Assisted Therapy).

Lea is also the creator of the A-PLAN© model — a simple yet powerful framework developed through her own healing journey to support clients in navigating grief and life’s many challenges with clarity, resilience, and purpose.
Lea provides a safe and empowering space where healing, growth, and transformation can unfold.
