Shivon is employed as a School Counsellor in the Independent Education system in Melbourne. She has a broad range of experience in working with children, adolescents and their families to support young people’s educational, social and emotional development and mental health. She also provides specialised family therapy to families within her workplace in the context of youth specific mental health concerns. In addition, Shivon has worked in the Community Health sector as a Family Therapist; coming alongside cultural and linguistically diverse families with complex needs, specifically in the areas of perinatal, infant and youth mental health, as well as attachment disorders. Shivon Barresi also holds positions with the Australian Institute of Family Counselling as a Trainer and Assessor and assists in co-ordinating the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and at Stirling Theological College as a State Co-ordinator in the undergraduate counselling program, and is also an Associate Lecturer. In addition to these roles, Shivon has a private practice in Melbourne where she has a small case load of clients and provides professional supervision for counselling practitioners. She takes a special interest in working with young people around issues of complex mental illness and the role of family relationships in recovery. Shivon is a clinically registered counsellor with ARCAP (Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and has the following professional memberships: Level 4 – Australian Counselling Association (ACA), clinical registration as a family therapist – AAFT (Australian Association of Family Therapists), clinical membership and registration as a mental health practitioner – PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counsellors Federation of Australia). Shivon is also a registered supervisor with ACA and PACFA.
