Pinky Hue: Faith, Counselling & Nature: Pinky’s Journey to Helping Others
Pinky’s journey into counselling began unexpectedly during the pandemic. While working as a gym manager and personal trainer, she found herself enjoying the time off more than she anticipated. “I realised I was happier being at home than going to work,” she shares. “That made me question if my job had meaning.”
Her search for a more purposeful career led her to prayer. After months of reflection, Pinky had a dream in which the word “counselling” appeared repeatedly. “It gave me the clarity I had been praying for,” she explains. She decided to study counselling at Eastern College, a Christian institution. She began working in youth ministry, where she now combines her counselling skills with her faith to support young people.
Pinky’s Christian faith is central to her counselling approach. “Faith has helped me understand people better,” she says. She uses her counselling skills to offer youth a safe space to open up, while also integrating pastoral care into her ministry work.
While fulfilling, Pinky is eager to practice counselling outside the church setting in a more professional context. “I want to be more equipped to help people professionally and not just in informal settings,” she says.
Pinky is also passionate about nature therapy, which combines outdoor experiences with counselling. “Being outdoors allows people to relax and connect with God’s creation,” she shares. Her love for hiking and exploring nature inspires her to pursue this type of therapy in the future.
Though Pinky’s involvement with the Christian Counsellors Association of Australia (CCAA) is still in its early stages, it has been a helpful part of her journey. “I registered with CCAA because many of my teachers are involved,” she explains. “I look forward to becoming more involved as I grow in my practice.”
Counselling has not only shaped Pinky’s career but also improved her communication skills and relationships. “It’s a life skill everyone should have,” she says. Whether in formal counselling or ministry, Pinky feels blessed by the opportunity to help others and looks forward to seeing where God leads her.
