Talking about sex and intimacy in individual or couple’s therapy can be challenging. Research shows that many therapists manage this by not asking, and clients respond by not telling, even when they are experiencing significant challenges here. At times, religious norms or expectations around sex can add further complication.
With warmth, wit and wisdom, this presentation will:
– Explore and define the landscape of sexual difficulty for clients
– Provide evidence based strategies – consistent with a Christian worldview – to support therapists to address sex effectively in therapy
– Provide structured, supportive opportunities for therapists to practice compassionate curiosity in order to invite client disclosures that are authentic and empowering, not awkward.
