This two-hour introductory workshop offers a first encounter with a compelling phenomenon: the way you, as a therapist, appear in your own practice. Drawing on Lisa’s doctoral research into the lived experiences of seasoned psychotherapists, this two-hour workshop introduces the concept of self-appearing — the moments of disruption when your habitual ways of being as a therapist surface, offering the possibility of growing in therapeutic wisdom. Through experiential exercises and group discussion, you will be invited to experience yourself appearing in your work and explore what those moments might be pointing to. For Christian therapists, this exploration carries particular significance: the conventions that quietly shape our practice are not only professional and theoretical but can also be theological and faith-formed. Beliefs, values, and spiritual assumptions can operate in the background of our therapeutic presence in ways that are rarely examined — and yet profoundly influence how we show up with our clients. This workshop creates a safe, collegial space to begin that exploration with curiosity and openness.

Participants in this introductory workshop may be interested in participating in a full-day workshop that will delve more deeply into the phenomenon of the therapist’s self-appearing – offered later in 2026.
