Dr Sandra Basham is a Counsellor, Educator, Sexologist, & Clinical Supervisor.
She will provide an introduction to the differences between psychological constructs and biological realities of sex and gender, including terminologies of sexuality and gender that need understanding in counselling work.
Discussion about the ethics of professional counselling work with people whose sexual identity [eg., GLBTIKOA], behaviour [eg., coerced or compulsive] and ethics don’t match your worldview.
Case study work in small groups: to discuss approaches to the case and ethical considerations.
GOALS
1. For Christian counsellors and pastoral workers to understand psychological constructs of sexuality and gender.
2. For Christian counsellors and pastoral workers to understand biological realities of sex and gender.
3. For Christian counsellors and pastoral workers to understand their competency and ethics in this area of therapeutic work.
4. For Christian Counsellors and pastoral workers to be encouraged to study this field.
5. For other professionals to understand a Christian worldview on sex and gender issues.
