Gordon Parker in his research based book called, Burnout: A guide to identifying burnout and pathways to recovery (2021), suggested that Burnout is the body and minds way of stopping ourselves working ourselves to death.

Marcel will help us deepen our understanding of burnout and how it differs from other diagnoses. Through his specialty work in this area, Marcel has seen that burnout is more prevalent than many people realise, though so many people do not access the support they need- burnout needs proper treatment. This session will explore burnout from the perspective of counsellors supporting clients experiencing burnout, as well as recognising and responding to burnout in ourselves as counsellors. Marcel will highlight the connection of boundaries, self-care and burnout and will detail how burnout requires an intentional and planned intervention. Indeed, burnout almost always has causal factors and therefore exploration of what got people there in the first will form part of this presentation.
